Principals Message
We find ourselves at the end of another School Term and also the point at which we farewell our Senior Class of 2022. I don’t think that it matters how long you have been teaching – it is never easy to say ‘goodbye’ to a group of students who have contributed so much to the life of a School. We wish our Senior students all the very best for their upcoming WACE examinations.
I would like to pay particular recognition to our outgoing Student Leadership Team, especially Head Girl and Boy, Natasya Suwandi and Ikhlas Lawang. Our Seniors of 2023 certainly been left big shoes to fill.
We began term 3 with a successful parent-teacher conference. More than 900 interviews took place over the afternoon and evening, and it was wonderful to see so many parents back at the College speaking with teachers.
I would like to remind parents about the necessity of students arriving to school on time by 8.25 am. It is essential that we teach our youth the habit of being punctual and set the correct example for them. Students arriving late to school miss out on assembly and our Quran recitation, important announcements and arrive late to their period 1 classes.
Sport uniform pants are now compulsory for all high school students (boys and girls). Students are no longer permitted to wear non-uniform track pants on days they have sports. Parents cooperation in this regard is needed. Students coming to school with the wrong uniform will be requested to either purchase the uniform on the day or parents to be contacted and possibly sent home.
We are very pleased with the preliminary NAPLAN data for our Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 2022. Parents and caregivers should have received individual student results by now. The initial data shows that Al-Ameen students are well prepared and have once again outperformed Like Schools, State and National measures on Reading, Writing and Numeracy. NAPLAN is not the only important measure of the College’s success. However, our student results have demonstrated the quality of teaching at Al-Ameen College for students at all levels of education.
Learning Celebrations
This term was jam-packed with learning celebrations marked by a few key themed weeks.
Science week started with a bang, whereby students volunteered to participate in activities including the Mad Scientist Show.
There is more than meets the eye to many things in our world. The students at Al-Ameen primary tackled this idea head-on in Week 5 during Science Week. This year's Science Week theme across the country was "Glass. More than meets the eye."
Another highlight for term 3 was Book Week. The English Learning Area and our Library organised an array of activities for our students.
Before the week's commencement, students had the opportunity to showcase their creative talents by designing amazing posters and speeches to promote the theme of the week, 'Dreaming with your eyes Open’ and their love of reading.
"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island." – Walt Disney.
It was a fabulous day with many students and most of the staff showing off their creativity and their willingness to have fun and show that reading really is something that transcends Dreaming with Eyes Open.
Many thanks to all the staff and students who stepped up to engage in this fantastic yearly event, and we look forward to seeing all the creative ideas flowing again next year.
The RUOK? event was well received by all staff and students. It was an opportunity to highlight the need for all individuals to reach out and seek support. We are fortunate to have our full time Counsellor Mrs Dahlia El Gammel with us at our campus, who is always available to listen and guide students about managing their worries and behaviours for a healthy mind, body and soul.
BStreetSmart Excursion
Our Senior students participated in the RAC BStreetSmart Excursion on Wednesday, 14 September, at RAC Arena in Perth. The BStreetSmart event is an annual excursion hosted by RAC and attended by over 9,000 students across metro Western Australia. RAC BstreetSmart features a crash scene re-enactment attended by emergency services, just as it would occur at a real crash site, allowing students to view first-hand the dangers and tragic risks associated with reckless or careless driving. The students also had the opportunity to listen to speakers directly impacted by road trauma and talk with emergency services personnel about their day-to-day ventures. The Year 11 and 12 students displayed exemplary behaviour and levels of maturity at the event and represented the College in a dignified and respectful manner. This event will continue to be endorsed by the College in future years.
Food Truck Extravaganza
Our Term ended with an award ceremony recognising student citizenship and Merit awarded to students who stepped up this term and put in their very best.
Students in primary and high school spent the day having picnics, playing games as a reward for their hard work this term.
The College aims to undertakes an extensive Year 7 transition program called ‘SPARK’. Next term our Year 6 students from each class will attend a series of events including buddying up with a mentor from year 11 and Team building activities with the current year 7 students in addition to a one-day transition program where our year 12 teachers will provide practical lessons as our year 6’s experience a day in the life of a student attending high school.
We are also proud to be partnering with IMA for WA's first Muslim Teens Career Event. Open to the community and all Muslim Youth. Join us to hear from over 30 different Muslim professionals who will inspire our youth to find their passion and better understand what options are available to them. To register, scan the QR code below.
A reminder that Term 4 commences on Monday, 10 October and the last day of the term will be Wednesday, 14 December 2022.
As Term 3 was the final one for our Year 12s, we will be holding their Farewell assembly together on Friday, 14 October, following a High Tea with year 12 teachers to celebrate their last official day of school. I want to take this opportunity to wish all our graduating students the very best of luck in their coming exams and look forward to seeing them all together again for our graduation evening on 19 November 2022 at Al-Ameen College.
I wish all our students, staff and community a safe and happy term break and look forward to seeing you all again in Term 4.

“Things done well and with a care, exempt themselves from fear.” William Shakespeare
We are nearing the end of Term 3 and already the reality and fervour of the approaching Year 12 WACE Exams permeates the Senior school. The WACE Exam timetable is out, and students are preparing accordingly. The balance of the curriculum is still being taught and both teachers and students are constructively engaged in classes. We have had several after-school tuition classes, but I was disappointed at the poor attendance at these sessions. These classes are held to prepare students for their impending exams and reinforce content already taught.
This has been a busy time of the year with OLNA, the Australian Maths Competition (AMC) and ICAS tests going on, amongst other things. On a lighter note we had, our much-anticipated Book Week, the Family Night, Year 7-10 Academic and Scholarship Awards, as well as the various inter-school sporting events. Our Parent-Teacher Interviews were well attended, and I encourage all parents to get involved in these important events.
On the Academic side, we are continuing to plan for 2023 and hope to introduce a host of new and exciting subjects and electives for students to choose from. We are in the process of finalising the new Course Handbooks for 2023, which will highlight the curriculum offerings for each year level from Year 7-12. We will continue to initiate the course counselling processes and support students with their subject selection aligned to their potential career pathways.
On the 4th of August we had the Year 10 Careers Counselling Session which proved a great help to our students. We will keep you informed of our Year 10 and 11 Career Day which will take place in the new Term. This will be an ideal opportunity to provide students and parents an opportunity to meet with the Course counsellors from the various tertiary institutions and to get career advice before making their selections for the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) subjects. This process will incorporate Vocational Education Training (VET) pathways and School Based-Apprenticeship options and will also provide an opportunity to check students’ general patterns to make sure every student is on track to complete their WACE.
We are also anticipating and preparing for our new Year 7 cohorts who will be transitioning from Primary School at the beginning of next year. We are in regular communication with the teachers to make sure we have everything in place to support the three Year 6 classes moving across the divide.
Our Year 12 Graduation is in the planning stage, and you we will keep you updated on that.
I would like to wish our Year 12 students everything of the best in preparations of their WACE exams.

Learn to Recite and Memorize The Holy Quran
The Islamic Studies & Quran Department was buzzing with activity, as usual, in TERM 3
Here are a few highlights that will bring joy to your heart and, in sha Allah, increase your Dua for us and your children and our beloved Al-Ameen College.
KINDY & PRE-PRIMARY:
Celebrating the hard work and incredible achievements of our Kindy & Pre-Primary Students in their Quran memorisation and completing our Book 1 Alif to Quran Reader.
PRIMARY:
More than 200 primary students were honoured for their hard work and progression towards reciting independently from the Quran. These are all students who have completed another stage in their Quran reading journey. All students who have completed Quran books 1 and 2 and those now on Quran recitation were acknowledged and gifted for their blessed endeavour. MashaAllah!
Year 1:
Year 1 students created 5 Pillars of Islam “House” posters as part of their learning of the Arkan-Ul-Islam. They also crafted glittery ‘salaah’ keys as symbols to represent how our salaah eases our entry into Jannah. The 5 parts of the key are symbolic: When one salaah is neglected in ones life, it is like a key with a broken piece, the key will not work properly.
Year 3:
In their Islamic Studies lessons, Year 3 learned about the purpose of salaah this term, and this was connected to the importance of remembrance of Allah and gratitude to Him. Children learned that it is important to have an “attitude of gratitude” throughout their life, at every moment, in every circumstance. They crafted individual “reminder“ glittery posters.
Year 6:
All year 6 students have alhamdulilAllah completed a full recitation of the entire Holy Quran. This journey began for some in Year 5 and Masha Allah was completed in Term 3, 2022. They were treated to a special lunch organised by their teachers in the Quran & Islamic Studies Department.
High school:
Despite the hardships covid has brought, alhamdullah the students were still able to push through. We have memorized some of the surahs in the Qur’an; Surah Al-Haqqah. Surah Al-Jinn, Surah Ar-Rahman, Surah Al-Sajdah, The end of Surah Al Imran, Surah Al-Kahf, Surah Al-Munafiquun and Surah At-Tahrim.
We are planning the kutmal kuthab to be completed by the yr9 and yr10. With the tajweed, we have covered Madd Muttasil Munfasil and Madd Lazim ,The Rules of Noon As-Sakinah and Tanween and The rules of Meem As-Sakinah
Al-Ameen Family Night:
This was a great success with entertainment and fun for the entire family and an important lecture by Sh Yahya Ibrahim about our duty to our Messenger Muhammad's legacy sala Allahu alihi wasSalam.
Yr 12 Cookout:
Our Year 12 students represent the vision we aspire for our Future Leaders!
May Allah swt grant them success and ease in their next journey. A special cook out prepared by chef Sh Yahya Ibrahim for our year 12 students and staff is a yearly tradition of love and gratitude.
Term 4 will begin with preparations for our Annual Quran competition & our Islamic Art Competition in sha Allah!
MashaAllah to our students for this wonderful achievement. May Allah (swt) grant them guidance and light and a life-long connection with the Book of Allah (swt).

Book Week 2022 Theme: Dreaming with EYES OPEN
The Children’s Book Council of Australia [CBCA] has played a unique role in the lives of children [and adults] since 1945. In 1987, the CBCA had created their own posters to illustrate the themes and promote the book week events. This year’s theme was ‘Dreaming with EYES OPEN’.
The 2022 Book Week event at Al-Ameen College was celebrated in style with the dazzling color of costumes, stage décor, skit performances and the enjoyable book reading with our Principal, Sr Rana. The Primary school has celebrated the event with a blast that was filled with excitement which demonstrated the importance of reading and giving our school an opportunity to celebrate books and encourage reading! The event was well attended with over two hundred parents present, celebrating the Book Week event. Thank you to our Librarian, Teachers and Students for making Book Week another success (second year in a row) on our events calendar!

National Science Week 2022 Theme: Glass; More than meets the eye.
The Science Week activities were a spectacular display of celebrating the 2022 United Nations International Year of Glass at Al-Ameen College. All activities included high school participation with several science experiments were enjoyed watching! The Primary school teachers and students brought awareness how glass as a material (often taken for granted) could play an important role from spectacle lenses, computer screens, mobile devices and sugar art etc. The Primary went the extra mile (as always) showcasing the well-planned science stations displays, how glass plays important scientific, economic and cultural roles in our daily lives………Well done, Primary for making this event another memorable event on our College calendar!

Delicious Recipes in Pre-primary
During term three Pre-primary students followed recipes to create delicious snacks such as coconut fruit skewers, smoothies and fairy bread. After students had made their snack, they were required to orally recount how they made it. Finally, students recorded their recipes into their recipe booklet. It was a wonderful hands-on experience for students and one that we hope to continue in term four!

Busy, busy and lots of fun in Year 1 Red
Year 1 Red has had another busy term, but we are always making sure to have lots of fun along the way. In our classroom we want our children to come in and smile, feel safe and know that they belong. To know that as their educators we are there to guide them through their learning adventure to the best of their abilities. We believe every child is different and they all have their own special qualities. Some students excel with their academics, while others are good at sport. Some make excellent speakers while others make great listeners. Some have a good sense of humour and others enjoy laughing. Some students are brilliant with their art and making things while others are great at making friends. Regardless of their individual and wonderful qualities they are all very special and deserve the best opportunity to succeed.
We feel honoured and proud that we have been given the opportunity to bring out some of these wonderful qualities in each and every one of these beautiful children. This is just a small part of our journey so far.
PROCEDURE WRITING
Writing this term involved procedure texts. This is to provide a series of precise, sequenced steps or directions that explain to the reader how to do something, while also allowing the reader to reach the outcome successfully. One of our favourites was making butter from scratch and then making fairy bread too. Yum!
SCIENCE WEEK
Science Week was also a very educational and fun week had by all. We talked about glass in our homes and how it is everywhere. We learned to make sugar glass and discover how it can be used in so many decorative ways in our kitchen and baking.
R U OKAY?
Thursday 8th September was R U OKAY? Day. We were reminded that we all experience life's ups and downs. Being there to support each other through tough times can help those we care about feel safe, supported and better about themselves and their situation. The children were able to express their images of their own minds when they are feeling down or overwhelmed. Together we created this poster to explain our thoughts and feelings.

In the outback - Year 5 & 6 Camp
One of the best highlights of this year had been our Point Walter Camp. We had a very memorable time over there. Though the showers continued, and the morning was cold, but this didn’t stop the Year 5/6 girls thoroughly enjoying their camp. From archery to orienteering to flying fox, each student challenged themselves and pushed a little beyond their comfort zone.
It was also a great opportunity for girls to build their friendship and life skills in a fun and supportive environment. I noticed girls loved sleeping in the cabins and getting away from their family. Staying warm in their bunk beds and enjoying the quiet time with their best friends was one of a unique experience that they can always remember.
Giant flying fox was so high up. To start we walked up a wobbly ladder and then climbed on the platform. We went up with our wobbly legs but ended up really enjoying the ride with instructor’s help. Year 5/6 demonstrated teamwork, generosity, respect and encouraged others with a humble attitude. The highlight of our experience was the karaoke and movie night. We discovered many talents, and all our girls had a blast.

The year 6 students produced some wonderful pieces of writing, with the winning entry coming from Sarah Elkatan. Students then dressed up as their favourite book characters and we had an entertaining assembly.

Salutations,
This term the English department has kept students engaged studying poetry in Year 7 and reading novels in Year 8, 9 and 10. Please see the photographs of the fabulous Year 9 models and posters students have made for their creative visual task.
We have completed OLNA (second round this term) and students have received their NAPLAN results, which show that we at Al Ameen are well above both the state and national average, Allhamdillah. There is always room for improvement particularly in reading and writing. Please encourage your child to read material outside of school compulsory textbooks such as, novels, short stories, graphic novels/comics or magazines. Naturally reading will allow for a broader vocabulary which will translate to more capable writing skills.
We wish to bid farewell to our Year 12 students as they complete their Semester 2 Mock exams and focus for their upcoming WACE exams. InshAllah they will be successful in their efforts.
That’s all for now, more exciting English studies are awaiting in Term 4 InshAllah.
