Exciting Times at Al-Ameen College: Celebrating Success and Growth
Dear School Community,
As Term 2 draws to a close, I am thrilled to share the many wonderful experiences and accomplishments we've had over the past few months. Our school community continues to grow and thrive, supported by the dedication and enthusiasm of our students, parents, and staff. Here are some of the highlights from Term 2.
Welcoming Our New Business Manager: Mr. Edwin Reyes
We are delighted to welcome Mr. Edwin Reyes as our new Business Manager. Mr. Reyes brings a wealth of experience, having served as Business Manager at Irene McCormack Catholic College and Emmanuel Christian Community School. His extensive background in the gas and utilities sectors across the Middle East, Europe, and Australia will be invaluable as he helps steer our school towards greater efficiency and success. We look forward to the positive impact he will undoubtedly make on our school community.
Welcoming Our New Board Chair: Mr. David Taylor
We are also excited to welcome Mr. David Taylor as our new Board Chair. Mr. Taylor brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience as both a former teacher and educator and a Lawyer that will be instrumental in guiding our school's future. His dedication to education and community service aligns perfectly with our values, and we are confident that his contributions will be significant. We extend our warmest welcome to Mr. Taylor and look forward to his positive influence on our school's governance.
Celebrating Our 2024 Dedicated Team at Al-Ameen College!
We are incredibly grateful for our wonderful and committed team of staff who work tirelessly to make Al-Ameen College a nurturing and inspiring place for our students. Your hard work, dedication, and passion for education do not go unnoticed. Every day, you bring care, creativity, and commitment to our college, creating a supportive and enriching environment for all. We feel especially blessed to have such a talented and caring group of professionals as part of our team. Thank you for everything you do!
Hajj Family Event
We began the term with a heartwarming Hajj Family Event, where families came together to learn about and celebrate the significance of Hajj. The event included educational sessions, interactive activities, and a communal meal. It was a beautiful opportunity to deepen our understanding of this important pillar of Islam and strengthen our community bonds.
Student Umrah Tour to Mecca and Medina
We are incredibly blessed to have a group of our students offered an opportunity to participate in an Umrah tour to Mecca and Medina. This life-changing experience is a first time for WA students and is generously sponsored by Human Appeal Australia, Cedar Cafe in Cannington, and MCCA Investments and Finance. This is strongly aligned to our strategic priority to strengthen and renew the faith of our youth and create long lasting healthy relationships. We extend our deepest gratitude to the sponsors for making this spiritual journey possible.
For students in year 9-12 interested in this opportunity, complete an expression of interest using the link below.
However, to continue providing such transformative experiences, we need your support. We are seeking sponsorships and donations for future Student Umrah Tours. We kindly request parents and community members to contribute to this noble cause. Your donations will help more students embark on this spiritual journey, enriching their faith and personal growth. Every contribution, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
2024 NAPLAN Results
We are proud to announce that our students have achieved outstanding results in the 2024 NAPLAN assessments. Our Year 5 to Year 9 students performed well above the national averages across all categories. Al-Ameen College students compared exceptionally well against other top independent (non-Islamic) schools in Western Australia, reflecting the diverse educational backgrounds and high educational levels of our parent community. Full student results will be available to parents in Term 3. Congratulations to all our students and teachers for their hard work and commitment to academic excellence.
Year 10-12 Examinations and Support
Our Year 10-12 students have successfully completed their examinations. In addition to the regular exams, we provided opportunities for after-school tuition and mock exam trials to help our students prepare thoroughly. We commend their hard work and dedication during this challenging period and encourage them to keep striving for excellence.
Career Information Sessions for Years 9-12
This term, our Career Department, Head by our Career Practitioner, Mrs. Suriati Raip we ran multiple Career Information sessions to our Year 9-12 students, providing them with invaluable guidance and insights into their future pathways. Highlights included:
- Career Expo at the Convention Center: Students had the opportunity to explore various career options and speak with industry professionals.
- Online Individual Tracking of Skills: Using the My Career Coach and My Life Coach portals, students tracked their skills development and career interests.
- Career Information Sessions: these sessions included both individual and group consultations to help students make informed decisions about their future.

Career Compass
Sports Success and Academy Competitions
Our students have been actively participating in various Sports and Academy competitions before and after school. These activities include Futsal, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton. A huge thank you to our dedicated PE staff, led by Head of Learning Area Mr. Shady Fouda, for their tireless efforts in organizing and coaching these events. The enthusiasm and sportsmanship displayed by our students have been truly commendable.
Important Reminders
As we transition into the next term, let's continue to embody the values of compassion, dedication, and community that are central to our school's ethos. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The best among you are those who bring greatest benefits to many others." Let us strive to benefit our community through our actions and attitudes.
Student Arrival: Students are expected to arrive at school by 8:20 am. The assembly begins promptly at 8:25 am, and classes commence at 8:30 am.
Parking and Road Safety: I want to sincerely thank all our parents for their patience as we improved the pick up and drop off conditions in our car park in the afternoon. I am pleased to note a drastic improvement in the flow of traffic with parents reporting reduced waiting and frustration due to the reduced wait times.
Please continue to support us in this regards and note the following guidelines:
- The after-school gate opening time is 2:40 pm.
- Parents are expected to park their cars in the designated car bays.
- The Kiss and Drop zone cannot be used as a parking bay and no vehicles should be left unattended in this area at any time.
We ended the term with a spectacular day of Fun and Games at the Al-Ameen College Carnival. The aim of these events is to reward and give our students a reason to love coming to school and to forge a positive connection with their school.
As we look forward to Term 3, we are excited about the opportunities and events that lie ahead. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making Term 2 so successful. Your support and involvement are the foundation of our thriving school community.
Best wishes to see you succeed at the highest level.

Assistant Principal - Teaching and Learning
Life at Al Ameen has been very busy for students and staff in Term 2. The most pleasing aspect of this term so far has been how hard most students work every day in every classroom. I recognise the commitment and dedication students have towards learning and their eagerness and enthusiasm to progress and develop.
To prepare students for the Semester one examinations, for two weeks, Year 11 and 12 ATAR students participated in after-school tutoring sessions from 3:30 to 5:00 PM, focusing on exam revision. These sessions were led by ATAR teachers, and attendance was high among the students. The Semester One examinations for Years 10, 11, and 12 have recently concluded. Year 12 students completed their exams between Week 5 and Week 7, followed by Year 11 students in Weeks 7 and 8, and finally, Year 10 students in Weeks 8 and 9. We commend all students for their hard work and dedication during this challenging period. The results will provide valuable insights into their academic progress and readiness for future endeavours. Year 12 General students took their Externally Set examination in week 4 and 5 and Year 12 EALD students completed their Common Oral Assessment Task in week 4.
This term, the focus for the Merit Awards was on the theme of Grit. Grit, defined as passion and perseverance towards long-term goals, was the cornerstone of our recognition program. During the Thursday assemblies, students who consistently embodied the values of grit and effort in their academic and extracurricular activities were honoured. The awards were presented by the Mathematics and HASS Departments. By recognising these students, we aim to encourage a culture of perseverance and resilience throughout the school, inspiring all students to strive for excellence, no matter the obstacles they may face. Congratulations to all the awardees for their outstanding achievements and unwavering commitment to their education.
Approximately 170 Year 9 and 10 students recently participated in a career expo held at the Perth Convention Centre, aimed at broadening their understanding of potential career pathways. The expo provided an invaluable opportunity for students to engage directly with professionals from various industries, educational institutions, and vocational training providers. Attendees were able to explore diverse career options, gather information about tertiary education pathways, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.
On May 22nd, our school had the privilege of hosting Year 7 and 8 students from Nurul Fikri Boarding School in Indonesia. During their visit, the students had the opportunity to observe classroom practices across a range of subject areas, gaining insights into our educational methods and environment. They were warmly welcomed by our school community, and our teachers and students enthusiastically shared their knowledge and experiences. The visiting students and their teachers expressed deep appreciation for the hospitality and warm reception extended by Al-Ameen School.
During the recent all-staff professional development day, high school teachers attended a comprehensive SEQTA workshop aimed at enhancing their use of this vital educational platform. The workshop focused on two key aspects: setting up the mark book and uploading lesson resources. Teachers received detailed instructions on configuring their mark books, which included creating and organising assessment tasks, inputting grades, and maintaining accurate records of student performance. Additionally, the session covered the efficient uploading of various lesson materials such as PowerPoint presentations, PDFs, videos, and supplementary documents. This training ensured that educators are well-equipped to utilize SEQTA's features to streamline their workflow, improve communication with students and parents, and provide a more organised and supportive learning environment.

Dear Parents and Guardians
Alhamdullilah, by the grace of Allah SWT, we have reached the end of a very busy and productive term 2. The end of the second term’s newsletter includes various activities and updates as a summary for the school community. We also use the newsletter as a tool to highlight the main events to keep parents informed.
Constable care Incursion: Constable care incursions are always appreciated by our school because it focuses on delivering safety to children in an educational setting. These incursions provide lessons designed to be engaging and fun. The topics are of major importance such as road safety, personal safety, cyber safety and much more.
Reptiles incursion: We recently had live reptiles at our school! A reptile incursion involves bringing live reptiles into a school setting seeing nature at play at its best. The incursion offered students to hold and feel a reptile. They observed them closely and learnt about different venomous and non-venomous reptiles. Students had a great time and the experience to touch a reptile was just simply awesome.
Soccer Tournaments: The year 6 boys and girls went on a soccer tournament and other schools came to visit our school as well. Soccer tournaments provide a valuable platform for students to gain exposure to athletic, skills and personal development. To compete against other schools prepares the students for the future challenges facing off teams from diverse groups. Students learn to build connections and time management skills. We thank Br Hasanin for his invaluable support arranging the tournaments and training provided during and after school hours.
Australian Early Development Census: We are fortunate to have the Pre-Primary Teachers involved in completing instruments on various topics such as Physical health, Social Competence, Language and Cognitive skills as well as Communication Skills and General knowledge. It was an intensive session ranging over one and a half days to complete the census. We thank the Pre-Primary teachers for their valuable work and providing the data for the census.
The data collected through the AEDC provides valuable insights and will inform policies, planning and actions for children and families related to health and education across Australia.
National Simultaneous Storytime: The KK-3 enjoyed a story time session with our dear Principal, Sr Rana, participating at the same with many other schools and libraries, reading the book, Bowerbird Blues. The National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. This year, the story covered, were about longing and connection, which exposed the children to these important themes in our daily lives.
Condolences for Mr. Niall McCloskey: The sudden loss of the year 6A teacher, Mr. Niall McCloskey was felt with heavy sadness. The demise of Mr. McCloskey has left a profound impact on the students who will dearly miss his kindness and excellent relationship building. The late Mr. McCloskey had established a strong connection with year 6A students. While the pain of losing their beloved teacher may linger, the students will cherish the memories which will provide closure. The school has provided emotional support and mechanisms to the students to cope with their loss.
Hajj incursion: To end the term on a high note, the Islamic studies Department has put on a vibrant display in expression of the rituals of performing the Hajj. The students experienced the Hajj guide in real time. Some students were dressed in Ihram and all. Masha-Allah well done to all the religious staff for showcasing the 3D models and the impressive Ka’bah, not leaving out one detail.
We hope you have a wonderful break with your children and a beautiful Eidul- Adha.

Year 1 - Vibrant and Busy
Welcome to our Term 2 newsletter! It has been a vibrant and busy term for our Year 1 students, and we're thrilled to share the incredible progress and exciting activities they've been involved in.
Grammar and Writing Adventures
Our focus this term has been on enhancing grammar conventions, particularly adjectives, statements, questions, and exclamations. In writing, we've embarked on the Talk 4 Writing Informative Writing Unit. The students have been working on non-fiction information reports and non-chronological reports, focusing on structuring their work into a beginning, middle, and ending. We've also been learning about different Australian animals, which has added an exciting dimension to our writing projects.
Maths Marvels
Our little mathematicians have been diving into various engaging topics. We've explored ordering numbers to 100, counting collections and groups, acting out problems, and understanding calendars and months. We've also focused on representing two-digit numbers, addition using think boards, partitioning to 20, and subtraction. Daily reviews help consolidate their understanding and develop their fluency in essential maths concepts.
History Explorations
In history, we've been time travellers! Students have learned to use appropriate terminology to distinguish between the past, present, and future. They've engaged in collaborative learning strategies, shared their ideas, and explored different seasons through an Aboriginal seasonal calendar. We've also looked at special days and how celebrations have changed over time.
Scientific Discoveries
Science lessons have been full of experiments and discoveries. We've introduced chemical sciences, exploring how materials change and identifying reversible and irreversible changes. Highlights include experimenting with chocolate, investigating fizzy reactions, and observing the changes in popcorn.
Excursions and Incursions
This term, we had an exciting school excursion to Wilkinson Homestead, where students travelled back 100 years to meet historical characters and participate in traditional activities. We also enjoyed an Educational Wildlife Incursion, where students had hands-on experiences with reptiles, learning about their habitats, diets, and roles in the ecosystem.
Constable Care
This term, our students enjoyed a visit from the Constable Care program. They learned about personal safety, stranger danger, and emergency procedures through fun and interactive sessions. It was a valuable experience that helped them understand important safety concepts in an engaging way.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work and enthusiasm our Year 1 students have shown this term. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to more exciting adventures in Term 3!

Literacy
Throughout Term 2, students have been practicing persuasive writing about gadgets. They used four specific toolkits to enhance the appeal of their writing. We particularly enjoyed creating story maps together, which helped students retell the text effectively. Another favourite activity was collaborating to create persuasive texts. These exercises not only improved their writing skills but also fostered teamwork and creativity. Additionally, students gained confidence in presenting their ideas persuasively.
Numeracy
This term, Year 3 students developed their understanding of units of measurement. They
thoroughly enjoyed measuring their peers' body parts and finding examples of things that are measured in litres or millilitres. Students practiced estimating measurements before checking their accuracy. This helped them gain confidence and precision in their measuring skills. These hands-on activities made learning engaging and practical.
Constable Care Incursion
During the recent incursion with Constable Care, students enjoyed an educational puppet show focused on First Aid Heroes and the DRABCD emergency response plan. The puppets taught the steps: Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, CPR, and Defibrillation, in an engaging way. The show was both entertaining and educational, helping students understand how to respond in emergency situations effectively.
Perth Reptile Incursion
Students really enjoyed listening to and touching the snake, with many experiencing this for the first time. They showed remarkable bravery throughout the activity. The hands-on
experience helped them learn about reptiles in an engaging way. It also sparked a lot of
curiosity and excitement about wildlife and nature.
Bash the Trash
During our recent "Bash the Trash" event, students cleaned their classroom and the area
outside. They used cleaning cloth to make the space tidy and welcoming. This activity taught them the importance of keeping their environment clean. By the end, students felt proud of their hard work.
Visual Art
The students had a wonderful time crafting gifts and cards for their mothers. Each handmade creation overflowed with love, thanking their mothers for everything.
National Simultaneous Story time
The students had a great time during the National Simultaneous Story time. They enjoyed the book called Bowerbird Blues. The story showed them how being creative and working hard can help you reach your goals.
Embracing Learning and Looking Ahead
Throughout this term, the students enthusiastically participated in numerous activities. We look forward to another wonderful term and wish everyone a blessed Eid Ul-Adha. Eid
Mubarak to all, may you celebrate with your family and friends, surrounded by love and

As we approach the end of another wonderful term, we reflect on the many activities and events that have enriched our year 6 community. This term has been filled with excitement, learning, and some poignant moments.
We were privileged to have our Wellness Coordinator, Sr. Aminah Mah, visit our school this term. She conducted workshops on mental health, stress management, and healthy lifestyle choices. Her sessions were incredibly informative and provided our students with valuable tools to manage their well-being. We appreciate her dedication to fostering a healthier school environment. This was supported by an incursion with Constable Care where the students learnt about online safety.
One of the most thrilling events this term was the Reptile Incursion. Students had the opportunity to see and learn about various reptiles up close, including snakes, lizards, and turtles. The hands-on experience was both educational and exciting, sparking a newfound interest in many students about these fascinating creatures.
Our boys and girls Soccer Tournament was a great success. Teams from various grades participated, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. Congratulations to all the participants and especially to the winning teams. Your hard work, teamwork, and enthusiasm made the tournament a memorable event.
Creativity was in full swing during our project on building houses out of cardboard. Students worked in groups to design and construct impressive cardboard houses, learning about architecture, teamwork, and resourcefulness. The innovative designs and the collaborative spirit were truly inspiring.
It is with deep sadness that we remember the passing of Mr Niall McCloskey, a beloved member of our teaching staff. Mr Mac was an exceptional educator who touched the lives of many students and colleagues. His passion for teaching and his kindness will be greatly missed.
As we conclude this term, we want to thank both students and parents—for their hard work and dedication. Your contributions have made this term a remarkable one. We look forward to the next term with renewed energy and enthusiasm.
